Our Approach
A Well Defined Process
Product development is a complex business, as each step builds momentum towards the final product launch. Missing a step, especially early in the development process, can lead to potentially disastrous results down the road.
That’s why Timberline has established a well-documented process that takes into consideration important factors like manufacturability, risk management, and budget to help you meet your business objectives.
Our team has the experience to know that taking the necessary time up front to truly understand your goals will ultimately lead to successful finished products. While no two projects are exactly alike, every product development effort will benefit from a well-defined process that prepares products for a successful launch.
Timberline’s Approach
Market Analysis and Customer Goals
There is no substitute for early investment in defining your goals and establishing how your product will help you meet them. During this initial stage, our team of design experts works closely with you to clearly understand your business and marketing objectives and create comprehensive product and requirement definitions.
These requirements will inform every step of your product’s development, making them a crucial component of your product’s ultimate success.
Unfortunately, we sometimes see businesses make the mistake of not allocating enough time or budget to this important process. This is slow, sometimes tedious yet very necessary work. Our engineers have the experience and knowledge to assist you to ensure all requirements are defined and documented correctly.

Design Validation
Design analysis and validation are both core strengths of Timberline’s engineering team.
Many of our clients initially come to Timberline because they have heard about our exceptional structural and thermal analysis and product simulation capabilities. Our SolidWorks certified staff utilize the industry-leading SolidWorks Simulation Professional suite to study thermal and structural effects on electronics. We also provide in-house 3D printing and prototype fabrication services and prototype testing to test product functionality and durability.
Production Startup
Unlike many product design firms, Timberline does not view a completed design as the end of our journey together. We have years of experience helping our clients prepare for successful production and a large network of industry partners that can provide additional value for our clients. Our experts can help your team coordinate with vendors on supply chain setup, tooling acquisition, process startup and first article inspection.
Product Life Cycle Support
Once your product has made it through successful production and into the market, Timberline continues to support your products throughout the entire product life cycle. We are ready to help you evolve products with ongoing product design improvements that ensure the longevity of your product development efforts.
"Timberline doesn’t stop once a concept is done. They are able to keep the big picture in focus and keep the design refined and consumer ready."
